Stand with Human Rights and Democracy Campaign

Stand with Human Rights and Democracy warns of the rise in authoritarianism and disinformation taking place globally, and the links between these big issues playing out in countries around the world with those faced today in the US.

We call for heightened international action to defend human rights and democracy, and for governments to make greater use of international justice measures like the International Criminal Court and the Magnitsky Act.

Stand with Human Rights and Democracy: Global Campaign for the Philippines focuses on President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign of extrajudicial killings, mainly as part of the “drug war” he promised in his 2016 campaign. Human rights organizations estimate the number of dead as more than 30,000.

The campaign also centers on Philippine Senator Leila de Lima, a prisoner of conscience recognized by Amnesty International and the TIME 100 list. Senator de Lima was jailed in 2017 on contrived drug charges, following testimony she facilitated in the Senate by a confessed former member of the death squad operated by Duterte as Mayor of Davao City.
